Approved for construction in 1908, this school was named in honor of Miss Laura Jones who had been had been a teacher of first grade for more than forty years. The Laura Jones School served the community’s educational system for more than eight decades, until its doors closed in 1991. The building itself was demolished, and the First United Methodist Church Family Life Center was eventually built in its place. Mementos of the Laura Jones School may be seen in a special room at the center.
