Edmund Grey, a pretending Quaker in 1754. founded the town of Brandon. In December of 1768, Quakers Joseph Mattock and Jonathan Sell obtained a grant of 40,000 acres from Royal Governor Sir James Wright and revived the town renaming it Wrightsboro in his honor.Seven ears later, over 60 families had settled in the town and 200 in the township - all Quakers. During the Revolutionary War, Fort Wrightsboro was commanded by Captain Thomas White, John Louis Porter edited “The Village Wreathe” newspaper, and Sherwood Roberts kept the inn.
