Located on the Augusta Canal, Enterprise Mill (circa 1848) stands as an icon of Augusta’s industrial past as part of the “Augusta Canal Industrial District”, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The original structure on the property, then known as Coleman’s Granite Mill, was the fist in Augusta to use waterpower from the newly created Augusta Canal for its sawmill and gristmill productions. After the 1872-1875 enlargement of the Augusta Canal and motivated by financial incentives offered by city officials for those willing to manufacture textiles, Enterprise Manufacturing Company added a new facility with on 100-foot central stair tower for textile production in 1877
