Established in 1899 as the Bon Air Golf Club, the game of golf was brought to Augusta. Over the years the club went through several name changes until it became the Augusta Country Club in 1921. At that time the clubhouse was a one room building, until a much grander clubhouse was built in 1903. Unfortunately the clubhouse was destroyed by fire prior to the 1961 opening of a more modern structured. Twenty-six years later a total renovation and refurbishment of the building began, with the official dedication occurring in 1989. With golf being so important to Augusta, the club goes down n history as being one of the first golf clubs in America and boasts of being the first to have 9, 18, and 36 holes of golf in Augusta.
